On Wednesday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, opened the parliamentary hearings "On the State of Industrial and Occupational Safety" held in accordance with The Verkhovna Rada Resolution No. 2321-УІ of 15 June 2010.

 

M.Tomenko reminded, "The Constitution of Ukraine and the fundamentals of the international Law proclaim that an individual, his life and health, honour and dignity, inviolability and security shall be recognized as the highest social value; everyone has the right for decent, safe and healthy working conditions. Thus, the state shall guarantee protection of life and health of every employee."

 

"Fundamentals of the governmental policy of labour safety arrange due, safe and healthy working conditions to prevent accidents at work and professional illnesses, harmonize working process with the capacities of an employee, considering their health and psychological state, as stated in the Conventions of the International Labour Organization, and European Union directives," the Deputy Chairman stressed.  

 

M.Tomenko stated that the round table discussion shall assess the actual state of labour safety in Ukraine, and the system of legal, socio-economic, organizational-technical, sanitary, medical and preventive actions taken to guarantee health and working capacity of an employed person.  

 

Given the topicality of the issue, organizers of the round table invited the Government members, representatives of the central authority agencies, local self-government bodies, national trade unions, international organizations, as well as managers and scholars.
